Banadir Regional Court warns against property fraud using fake identities.

The Banadir Regional Court has issued a warning to individuals who illegally attempt to seize other people’s property using false names or forged documents, following the conclusion of a long-running court case.

The Chairperson of the Banadir Regional Court stated that the case involved a woman who tried to claim ownership of another person’s house by using a false identity and presenting herself under a name that was not her mother’s.

The fraud was uncovered after the prosecution confirmed that the woman’s mother, Habibo Muude Mohamed, had passed away. The evidence led the woman to admit to fabricating the claim.

Nuradin Omar Yusuf, the rightful property owner, said he had pursued a legal battle since 2018 after being deprived of his land for nine years. He explained that the case went through all judicial levels—from the regional court to the court of appeal and finally the Supreme Court—before the property was returned to him.

Another party to the case, Luul Mohamed Nurow, initially claimed the house belonged to her mother and altered her mother’s name to support the false claim. After appearing before the Office of the Attorney General, she formally confessed to filing the case under a false name, withdrew the lawsuit, and returned the house keys, bringing the prolonged dispute to an end.

Nuradin Omar Yusuf urged the public to be patient with the judicial process and to place their trust in Somalia’s courts.
