Interior security minister and Police Chief close advanced training for female police officers.
Interior Security Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag and Police Chief Maj. Gen. Asad Osman Abdullahi close advanced training for female police officers.
The Minister of Internal Security of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, together with the Commander of the Somali Police Force, Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi, officially concluded an advanced military training program for female police officers, particularly members of the Galeyr unit.
The officers were awarded the highest level of military training, qualifying them to take part in special operations. The Galeyr unit is responsible for carrying out high-risk and specialized security missions.
The inclusion of women in frontline special operations follows a directive from the Police Commander, aimed at strengthening and expanding the role of female officers within the Somali Police Force—an area in which women previously had limited participation.
The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to empowering women in the security sector and enhancing the operational capacity of the police through inclusive and professional training.
