Somalia and Russia explore ways to expand cooperation in security, development and diplomacy
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met with Russian Ambassador Mikhail Golovanov to discuss security progress, state building and humanitarian needs, while both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic and cooperation ties. The meeting also included a detailed briefing from the National Disaster Management Agency
The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, continued his series of engagements with resident diplomatic missions and today received the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Somalia, Mikhail Golovanov.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Hamza briefed the ambassador on the overall situation in the country, including progress in the security sector, state building efforts, expansion of government services and Somalia’s growing role in contributing to global peace and cooperation. He highlighted the government’s achievements in strengthening national institutions and improving service delivery across regions.
The discussion also touched on the diplomatic and cooperation ties between Somalia and Russia. Prime Minister Hamza provided an update on the current humanitarian situation affecting communities impacted by drought and elaborated on the most effective responses required to support affected families.
Ambassador Golovanov expressed his deep appreciation to the Prime Minister and the Government of Somalia for the warm and constructive engagement between the two countries. He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to further expanding bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency, Mahmoud Macalin Abdulle, who presented a detailed statistical briefing, as well as the Permanent Secretaries of the Office of the Prime Minister, Kamal Dahir Gutale.
