Jordan Rejects Israel–Somaliland Deal as Somalia Sovereignty Breach
In Summary

Jordan’s Foreign Ministry has condemned the Israel–Somaliland mutual recognition, calling it a violation of international law and Somalia’s sovereignty, and reaffirming full support for Mogadishu’s authority over all Somali territory.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has issued a strong diplomatic rebuke of the recently announced mutual recognition between Israel and the Somaliland administration, reaffirming its full and unequivocal support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

In an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Jordan described the move as a “flagrant violation” of international law and the United Nations Charter, warning that such actions undermine the foundational principles governing relations between states.

The Ministry stressed that any attempt to legitimize a breakaway administration constitutes a direct infringement on Somalia’s sovereignty and violates its internationally recognized borders. Amman made clear that respect for national unity and territorial integrity is non-negotiable, and that unilateral diplomatic recognitions outside legal frameworks threaten global stability.

Jordan emphasized that the recognition of separatist entities sets a dangerous precedent that contradicts the rules-based international order.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, Ambassador Fuad Al-Majali, the official spokesperson, underscored Jordan’s absolute rejection of efforts to impose what he termed “parallel entities” that erode the cohesion of the Somali state.

He affirmed that Jordan stands firmly with Somalia’s legitimate federal institutions, stressing that the authority of Mogadishu over all its territory is essential to safeguarding peace, security, and political stability in the Horn of Africa.

Ambassador Al-Majali concluded by reiterating Jordan’s opposition to any actions that seek to fragment Somalia or compromise its national security. The statement reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to shielding Somalia from external interference and resisting diplomatic initiatives that attempt to normalize separatism under any guise.

Jordan’s forceful stance adds to a growing diplomatic front opposing recognition of Somaliland outside Somalia’s federal framework. By invoking international law and the UN Charter, Amman has reinforced Somalia’s legal and diplomatic position at a critical moment, sending a clear message that the country’s unity remains firmly protected on the international stage.
