Somali Future Council Backs South West State Amid Rising Tensions with Federal Government
The Somali Future Council has announced its support for the South West State amid escalating tensions with the Federal Government of Somalia.
In a press statement, the council urged other federal member states, particularly Galmudug and Hirshabelle, to take similar steps to those already adopted by South West State, Puntland, and Jubaland.
The political standoff between South West State and the federal government has reached a sensitive level, with reports indicating that authorities in the regional administration have shut down the airport in Baidoa, further intensifying the dispute.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Somalia is reportedly planning to deploy officials and security forces to areas under the regional administration. Troops have already been sent to Baraawe, the official capital of South West State.
Analysts warn that the situation risks deepening an already serious political crisis, which, if not urgently resolved, could have far-reaching implications for national security, unity, and overall stability in Somalia.
