IGAD Executive Secretary, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu condemned the deadly car bomb attack in Mogadishu’s Hamarweyne district on Saturday, which claimed three lives, including a woman.
In his statement, Dr. Gebeyehu expressed condolences to the victims’ families and reaffirmed IGAD’s unwavering support for Somalia.
“IGAD stands firmly with the people and government of the Federal Republic of Somalia against these despicable attacks,” he stated, stressing that such acts of terror will not derail Somalia’s path to peace and stability.
Dr. Gebeyehu also reiterated IGAD’s commitment to combating extremism and promoting regional security,
praising Somalia’s resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.
He called for continued efforts to secure a peaceful and prosperous future for the country, highlighting IGAD’s role as a key regional partner in Somalia’s fight against terrorism, supporting security enhancements, institutional strengthening, and long-term development.
