President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has expressed gratitude to his Djiboutian counterpart Ismael Omar Geele for accepting the hand of marriage of legislator Sadaaq Omar Hussein.
Sadiq Omar alias Sadaq John is a former Benadir Regional Police Commander and was this year elected to the 11th parliament of the Federal government, following a victory in election held in Dhusamareb.
Mr. Sadaaq married Haybado Ismael in Djibouti at a private traditional wedding ceremony on Thursday.
Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud lead the elders seeking the hand of marriage of the daughter of the head of state as per the Somali tradition.
President Hassan Sheikh was heading traditional leaders asking for the bride’s hand in marriage on behalf of Sadiq while Somaliland President Muse Bihi officially presented the daughter to the bridegroom on behalf of Guelle.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who also applauded President Muse Bihi of Somaliland for his efforts in leading the traditional ceremony on behalf of the family of the bridegroom, said the meeting signified values shared by all Somalis.
“It’s been said before that desire of a man to ask the hand of marriage of someone’s daughter, and the most generous man is he who accepts the marriage,†said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
“I propose to the President, her entire maternal family whom we are requesting the hand of marriage of Haybado Ismail Omar as per the Somali and Islamic traditions,†said Dr. Hassan Sheikh.
President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud underlined that Djibouti and Somalia are brotherly nations which has now been mushroomed by the marriage of new couples.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said the traditional marriage will promote the deep relationship between the two countries, and strengthen the strong pillars of culture and brotherhood between the two states.
The traditional private ceremony was attended by former Prime Ministers of the Federal Republic, parliamentarians and Senior officials and leaders from Mogadishu and Djibouti.
