Mogadishu, –  Unknown gunmen shot to death last Saturday Mr. Mahdi Hussein Macow, United Nations Mine Action Services (UNMAS) employee and Community Liaison Officer (CLO), in the town of Beletwein in Hiiraan region, drawing mass condemnations.
The employee late Mahdi Hussein Macow died for his wounds, after a car carrying militias opened fire at the Hawo Tako village in the of Beletwein last Saturday.
An statement from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) condemned  the murder and adding that the employee was linked to the AMISOM stabilization activities.
“the killing of Mr. Mahdi Hussein Macow is an indication of the remaining pockets of anti-peace elements that the nation and its partners must deal with as we forge ahead towards a stable and peaceful Somalia.†AMISOM said in a press release released on Monday.
AMISOM extends its deepest condolences to UNMAS, as well as family and friends of Mr. Mahdi Hussein Macow.
Some media reports citing local sources indicate that the guards of Hiiraan governor might have been involved in the killing of the aid worker
Aid workers are targeted in some parts of Somalia by armed assailants, where there is dire humanitarian needs.
