Fighters of armed group Alshabaab have taken control of Somali town near Kenyan border.
Residents of Elwak have told the media that fighters have entered the town on Friday evening and attack Somali national army positions.
Witnesses said there is heavy exchange of fire that is still ongoing but it is not immediately clear the number of casualties on both sides.
The group have on Thursday taken control of Moqokori small town in Hiran province after AMISOM troops vacated their positions.
Hundreds were displaced from the towns retaken by Alshabaab after AMISOM withdrawal.
