Somalia has grounded civilian planes at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde airport ahead of the conference between the leaders of Somalia neighboring Countries of Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya.
Somali officials closed key roads in Mogadishu in preparation for the conference. Security has also significantly been tightened at numerous vital checkpoints
The conference will be hosted by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and will begin today in Mogadishu to discuss strengthening partnerships in the fight against international terrorism.
The meeting is to discuss the completion of operations to liberate areas still occupied by Al-Shabaab militias and to coordinate support and cooperation in anti-terrorism efforts.
President Hassan Sheikh has placed great importance on the fight against terrorist groups and has regained control of many areas previously occupied by Al-Shabaab.
Several people who spoke with Dalsan expressed dissatisfaction with the road closures, saying that it forces them to walk or take exceedingly long detours.
