The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on Monday received a high-level official welcome at the Al-Ittihadiya Presidential Palace in Cairo, the capital of the Arab Republic of Egypt, where he held talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The visit underscores the strong and historic ties between Somalia and Egypt and reflects the shared commitment of both countries to deepen bilateral relations and strategic cooperation. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was accorded full state honors upon arrival at the palace, highlighting the importance Egypt attaches to its relationship with Somalia.

During their closed-door discussions, the two leaders focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation across a range of key areas, including security collaboration, political coordination, economic partnership, and regional stability. Particular emphasis was placed on enhancing joint efforts to promote peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the broader region.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and President El-Sisi also discussed avenues for expanding economic cooperation, investment opportunities, capacity building, and development initiatives that would benefit both nations. The talks reflected a shared vision of fostering sustainable development and reinforcing institutional cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

The meeting further addressed regional and international issues of mutual interest, with both leaders reaffirming the importance of dialogue, respect for sovereignty, and collective action in addressing shared challenges. Egypt reiterated its continued support for Somalia’s state-building efforts, security sector development, and the strengthening of national institutions.

Following the bilateral talks, the two presidents were expected to hold a joint press conference to brief the media on the outcomes of their discussions and outline the next steps in advancing Somalia–Egypt relations.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s visit to Cairo forms part of broader diplomatic engagements aimed at reinforcing Somalia’s international partnerships and strengthening cooperation with key regional and Arab allies in support of peace, stability, and development.
