Kenya Police arrest 26 in Nairobi for forged government documents.
Kenya Police have arrested 26 people in Nairobi, including members of the Somali community, in connection with the production of forged government documents such as IDs, passports, and permits. The arrests followed raids on homes and offices, with suspects now in custody awaiting court proceedings.
The Kenya Police have conducted an operation in Nairobi, arresting 26 individuals, including Somali residents, over the alleged production of counterfeit government documents. The arrests came after investigations revealed cases involving fake identification cards, passports, and other official papers.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects, a mix of men and women, included local government officials accused of facilitating the issuance of fraudulent documents. Some of those detained were associated with leadership in Nairobi’s Somali-majority neighborhoods, including Islii.
Law enforcement officers conducted searches at the suspects’ homes and other locations, seizing materials and equipment used in document forgery. The detainees are currently held at high-security facilities in Nairobi while awaiting court proceedings, as authorities prepare charges against them.
Kenya Police emphasized that they are strengthening oversight of local government services, including national ID issuance, business permits, and other essential documents, to prevent misuse and ensure that only legitimate citizens receive government services.
