Somali Presidential candidate has cautioned the government and politicians against politicizing maritime dispute between Kenya and Somalia.
Mr. Abdirahman Abdishakur who was part of Somali government officials that are said to have signed memorandum of understanding between Kenya and Somalia in 2009 to end the dispute has shown his confidence of the court to rule in favour of Somalia.
“I am very confident in the case regarding the vast experience and the knowledge of the lawyers representing our country at ICJ,†he said.
Abdishakur who was planning minister during the agreement cleared the air by saying the MoU he signed as part of federal government of Somalia representative with Kenya did not affected the maritime border whatsoever but only on continental shelves.
“The lawyers representing our country will made clear at the court about the correct content of the MoU,†he said.
He rubbished what he termed as falsehood propaganda in the media by politicians against him, former President Sheikh Sharif and current PM Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke.
“ We need to work towards the national interest of our people and stop politicking,†he said.
“ I am ready to be accountable to the content of the agreement†he added.
