Unidentified gunmen killed a prominent elder at Bakaraha Marker in Hodan district, Mogadishu, Reports said.
According to witnesses, the elder, identified as Said Sheikh Adam, died on the spot after her was shot by the gunmen.
The assailants escaped the scene after fulfiling their mission and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the assassination of the elder.
Somali government soldiers arrived at the scene of crime minutes later but could not apprehend the assailants.
Police officers have launched an operation in search of the gunmen.
Dozens of elders have been killed across Somalia in the the past following accusations of backing government and African Union forces in Somalia.
