ISIS Video Purports Assassination Of Somali Police Near Mogadishu

The Islamic State has released a video purporting to show an elderly man it identifies as a Somali police officer been assassinated in Afgoye near Somali capital Mogadishu.

In the video, a purported ISIS executor is seen shooting the elderly man from behind before he goes motionless.

According to reports the man is said to be a Prisons Guard.

Somali authorities are yet to comment on this latest killing by Pro ISIS militants the closest attack to the capital Mogadishu.

In the past, local authorities have denied the presence of ISIS militants in Afgoye.

ISIS has since early 2017 claimed for the responsibility of several attacks in Afgoye.

In January 2017 ISIS claimed responsibility for the killing of a tax collector in Afgoye’s main market.

A second man who the group claimed to be a NISA agent was killed in the same month.

The agricultural town of Afgoye is approximately 30km from Mogadishu. Alqaeda linked Alshabaab has lately intensified attacks on the road linking it to the capital and the emergence of ISIS may further complicate the security situation.
