Dozens of Uganda troops, Somali soldiers and Alshabaab fighters are feared dead after the group executed coordinated attacks on four different towns in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region.

Radio Dalsan confirmed from authorities that the militants attacked Mashallay, Qoryoley, Golweyn and Bulo Merer towns.

At Bula Merer two VBIED bombs  targeted an Amisom military base after which firefight broke out between the militants and the AU troops.

AlShabaab Spokesman Abdul Aziz Abu Musab told Radio Andalus the militant group’s mouthpiece that 59 Ugandan soldiers were killed in the Bula Merer attack.

14 Alshabaab fighters were killed according to the Spokesman.

Amisom troops managed to repulse the militants following the attack.

No statement has been issued by Amisom regarding casualties.

A third VBIED bomb targeted Golweyn Amisom military base simultaneously.

Somalia National Army soldiers fought the Alshabaab militants after they launched attacks on the Qoryoley and Mashallay military bases.

These are the first coordinated attacks by the militant group on an Amisom base in 2018.
