5 Alshabaab Captives Freed, 3 Militants Nabbed In Bay & Lower Shabelle

Somali government forces have freed 5 captives and captured 2 Alshabaab militants in an operation near the South West administrative capital Baidoa, Radio Dalsan reports.

The military operation followed three simultaneous dawn raids on Somali National Army bases in the region.

Hussein Wardeere Hassan a South West official in charge of the area of operation confirmed to Radio Dalsan that authorities were holding two militants.

“We pursued them and caught up with them at Gofgoduud. We freed five hostages in their hands. We brought two motorbikes and two of the fighters and you can confirm that from Baidoa” Hassan said.

“The motorbikes and two captured are in Baidoa. They will be taken court and they will face the justice system which will decide whether to execute them or hand them life sentences” he added.

Another operation was conducted in Furuqley village near Afgoye some 30km from the capital Mogadishu. One AlShabaab militant was captured according to local security sources.

In the last three days the militant group executed attacks on government forces in Middle Shabelle, Lower Shabelle and Bay region. At least ten SNA soldiers were killed in the attacks.
