Arsenal have stepped up their efforts to sign Real Madrid winger Vinícius Júnior, with manager Mikel Arteta personally leading the campaign to bring the Brazilian star to the Emirates Stadium. Reports suggest that the Gunners are prepared to make the biggest financial outlay in the club’s history to secure his signature, should contract extension talks with Real Madrid fail.
This pursuit comes as Vinícius, 26, enters the final year of his contract with Real Madrid. Contract negotiations have been ongoing for 18 months but have reportedly stalled over his wage demands of around €30 million net per year (€550,000 per week). If an agreement cannot be reached, Real Madrid are understood to be willing to sell rather than lose him for free next summer, opening the door for Arsenal.
Arteta, who led Arsenal to the Premier League title last season, has reportedly made a personal promise to the Brazilian star. According to Spanish newspaper AS, Arteta has assured Vinícius that he would become the centerpiece of Arsenal’s project, with the team built around his playing style. This promise is seen as a significant attraction for Vinícius, who is believed to be unhappy with his role at Real Madrid, particularly since Kylian Mbappé joined the club.
However, significant financial hurdles remain. Arsenal would need to pay a fee believed to be close to €150 million, in addition to covering his high salary demands. It is believed that Arsenal have the financial capacity to complete such a deal, and there is confidence within the club that Vinícius would be open to the move. But everything now depends on the outcome of the upcoming talks between Vinícius and Real Madrid regarding a new contract.
