At least 30 Somalis and Ethiopian migrants drowned in the Gulf of Aden off the Yemen coast when their boat headed for Djibouti capsized.
The migrants had departed near Aden in a smuggler’s boat carrying 150 migrants.
Survivors narrated to IOM officials that their boat was shot at several times before sinking.
African migrants have in the past died crossing the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea but this is the second highest number of deaths.
In March 2017 42 Somali migrants were killed when their boat came under attack by Saudi Arabian Apache helicopters.
