Somalia and UN step up coordination on national transformation plan and cooperation framework
Somalia’s Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development Mohamud Beenebeene met with George Conway, the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations (DSRSG), to strengthen coordination between the Government and the UN in support of the National Transformation Plan 2025–2029 (NTP2025_2029) and the new UN Cooperation Framework (UNCF).
During the meeting, Minister of Planning highlighted the importance of fully aligning the UN Cooperation Framework with the objectives of the National Transformation Plan before it receives government endorsement. Both sides reviewed progress on the framework, which is currently under development.
The discussion also focused on preparations for the upcoming Development Coordination Forum and the Somalia Joint Fund (SJF). They reviewed follow-ups from recent Management Group decisions and assessed ongoing pipeline projects to ensure effective implementation of development priorities.
Minister of Planning and the DSRSG agreed on the need for stronger collaboration to achieve shared development goals. They emphasized that coordinated efforts between the Government and the UN are key to advancing sustainable growth and addressing Somalia’s national priorities.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to continued engagement and close coordination, ensuring that UN programs complement Somalia’s development agenda and support the successful delivery of planned reforms.
