President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Receives Warm Welcome in Algeria, Holds Bilateral Talks with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune
President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, received an official and warm welcome at the El Mouradia Presidential Palace in Algiers as he continued his official visit to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.
The Somali leader was received by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in a formal ceremony that featured the playing of national anthems, the hoisting of the flags of both countries, and a military guard of honor presented by units of the Algerian armed forces.
After the welcoming ceremony, the two heads of state held a private meeting focused on strengthening diplomatic relations and exploring new areas of cooperation between Somalia and Algeria. Following their meeting,
President Mohamud and President Tebboune co-chaired extensive bilateral discussions attended by ministers and senior officials from both governments. The talks covered key areas such as security cooperation, economic development, trade, education, healthcare, culture, and diplomatic coordination.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed deep gratitude to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Algerian people for their generous hospitality and warm welcome. He said the visit represents the historic brotherly ties between Somalia and Algeria and provides an opportunity to deepen collaboration between the two nations.
President Mohamud emphasized Somalia’s interest in learning from Algeria’s experience in fields like security, education, and energy, while also calling for stronger cooperation on regional and international issues.
For his part, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune praised the Somali government for its continued efforts in peacebuilding, stabilization, and national reconstruction.
He reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s development and security agenda, noting that Algeria considers Somalia an important partner in Africa. President Tebboune also expressed readiness to strengthen cooperation in areas such as training, investment, and diplomatic engagement at the continental level.
Both leaders agreed to establish mechanisms for continuous dialogue and technical cooperation between their respective ministries, particularly in defense, education, and economic partnerships. They also discussed regional stability in the Horn of Africa and North Africa, highlighting the importance of African unity and collaboration in addressing shared challenges.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s visit to Algeria marks an important step toward revitalizing the long-standing relationship between the two brotherly nations. It underscores the shared commitment of both governments to deepen bilateral ties and expand cooperation for the benefit of their peoples and for the promotion of peace and prosperity across the African continent.
