President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrives in Cairo for opening of Egypt’s National Museum of Civilization
Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received a warm welcome upon his arrival in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, where he will attend the official opening ceremony of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
At Cairo International Airport, the President was received by senior Egyptian government officials, representatives of the Somali Embassy in Cairo, and members of the Somali community, who expressed joy and national pride at his visit.
During his stay in Cairo, President Mohamud will join world leaders and dignitaries invited to the grand opening of the new museum, which is described as one of the largest and most advanced in the Islamic and African world. The museum showcases Egypt’s rich history and ancient civilization, offering a modern preservation space for its cultural heritage.
According to a statement from Villa Somalia, the President’s visit is part of efforts to strengthen the long-standing historical and diplomatic relations between Somalia and Egypt, which are founded on shared faith, culture, and centuries of mutual cooperation.
While in Cairo, President Mohamud is expected to hold bilateral talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and other senior government officials. The discussions will focus on expanding cooperation between the two nations, particularly in education, trade, the security of the Red Sea, and Egypt’s continued diplomatic and development support to Somalia.
Egypt and Somalia share deep historical ties that date back generations, particularly in religion, education, and regional security. Hundreds of Somali students continue to study in Egyptian institutions, including the renowned Al-Azhar University, one of the world’s oldest and most respected centers of Islamic learning.
The opening ceremony of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization is expected to attract world leaders, scholars, and international guests, highlighting Egypt’s enduring cultural influence and its role in preserving humanity’s ancient heritage.
