Pressure is mounting on the Somaliland government to release two thespians
Liiban mohamed Jaamac and Abdisamad Saciid Ali who were arrested on 29th march in Laascaanood
The two actors were accused of taking part in a play whose theme was critical of the Muse Bihi government.
“The Somaliland constitution states every citizen has the liberty to forward his/her idea through writings, talks plays and poems or any other way that is consistent with the constitution” Human Rights Center Chairman Guled Ahmed Jama said.
“Therefore we regard the arrest of those two actors as against the constitution” Jama added.
“Human rights center is concerned about this kind of arrest which is gagging the voice and the proposals of the citizens” the center stated.
Somaliland has this year alone arrested an author and popular poet Naima Ahmed on similar charges.
The breakaway region which declared its independence in 1991 has in the past targeted persons perceived to champion Somali Unity.
