Somalia is mourning the killing of a prominent youth leader with calls for the government to ensure protection for all.
Abdiweli Ahmed “Faransa” the Youth Chairman in Mogadishu’s Warta Nabadda was laid to rest on Friday in Mogadishu.
He was was shot dead by two suspected Alshabaab militants on Thursday evening in the latest of a string of assassinations in the capital.

The 28 year old had just been married for 21 days at the time of his assassination.
“Ina Lilah wa INA ileihi rajicun …..Somalis people the only power we do now is to say Allah u naxaristo but really we need change to army the society won’t bring change us Somali’s citizen need clear strategic to come up with current security leaders otherwise they have to resign” an outraged Abdirahman October tweeted.
Ahmed Abdihadi Abdiwali tweeted with two photos “on the left was youth leader in Moqadishu. he was killed this evening. Abdirzaq on the right was school teacher and killed in yesterday evening in Moqdishu, too. Culprits escaped as usual. If you kill in Moqadishu you have 100% chance not to identified”.
“Yet another young and full of promise life cut short. Painfully familiar/routine. Enough thoughts and prayers sent. Time for action/protection. Mogadishu deserves better. Praying for peace” Zahra Shirwa a social activist tweeted.
At least 13 assassinations have been reported in Mogadishu alone since the start of the month of Ramadan 16 days ago.
Ahmed’s killing coincided with the release of a propaganda video by militant group Al-Shabaab showing at least seven assassinations it had executed in Mogadishu this year.
