Thabit Abdi Mohamed, the immediate former Governor of Banaadir region and Mayor of Mogadishu on Sunday night accepted his dismissal and broke his silence on his differences with the Federal Government, Radio Dalsan reports.
Speaking at a press conference in the capital Mogadishu, Mohamed said that he differed with the President and Prime Minister on matters relating to the security of the city and Mogadishu Peace and development Conference which he advocated for.
“The Heads of the states are persons we have worked and struggled with for longâ€, he said of the President and the Premier.
“What led to the political differences that were there for the recent days are the following two reasons. The calmness and security of Banaadir region is an issue that requires a peacekeeping way in a general and exclusive manner while considering the law†he explained.
“The Mogadishu Peace and Development Conference which was one that could have been used to discussed and presented the views of Mogadishu residents in regard to basic services, economic development, security and political issues in which 3 million people are lacking their legal representationâ€, Mohamed said.
He called upon the government to let the headquarters of Banaadir administration carry out its normal business after its takeover by NISA agents asking on the public to calm down.
Mohamed had served as Mayor of the capital and Governor of Banaadir in the last ten months.
