Somalia’s Jubbaland Regional State President Ahmed Islam Madobe has criticized the Somalia Federal Government for backing Qatar in the Gulf Crisis and sidelining UAE.
Madobe spoke in the regional administration capital Kismayu upon his return from Ethiopia.
He told Kismayu residents that he will back UAE and not Qatar. in the Gulf Crisis.
“Current Somali Federal Government should strive to leave behind a better legacy than spewing propaganda on the social media” he said.
The Jubbaland leader had before arrival in Addis Ababa had been on an official visit to UAE under invitation from the Gulf state.
Mogadishu-Abu Dhabi relations hit the rocks with last months seizure of an Emirati plane loaded with a cache of $ 9.6 M.
The move forced UAE to halt its military training and funding for the Somalia National Army and later scrape Somalia from its online visa application replacing it with “Republic of Somaliland”.
Somalia had settled for a “neutral” stance following the Gulf crisis although the Farmaajo administration has been seen to be warming up to Qatar.
