Somalia and IOFS discuss livestock development and drought management.
The Somali Ambassador to Turkey and Kazakhstan, Fathudin Ali Ospite, met in Astana with the Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), Ambassador Berik Aryn.
The meeting, held at the IOFS headquarters, focused on strengthening cooperation between the organization and the Somali government, particularly in food security and agricultural development.
Priority topics discussed included livestock development, improvement of animal genetics, and management of recurring droughts.
Ambassador Fathudin Ali Ospite briefed the IOFS Director General on the humanitarian situation in Somalia caused by severe droughts, noting that nearly six million people have been affected, with two million facing critical conditions.
In response, IOFS Director General Berik Aryn reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s efforts to enhance agricultural production and ensure food security.
Both parties agreed to intensify consultations and future collaboration to translate joint plans into effective actions addressing the country’s challenges.
