President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has appointed MP Aweys Mohamed Omar as the Special Presidential Envoy for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremist Ideology (P/CVE).
In his appointment remarks, the President urged the envoy to serve the nation with integrity, transparency, and national responsibility.
The role of the Special Envoy includes strengthening security and consolidating government institutions, preventing extremism and countering violent extremist ideologies, promoting collaboration between communities and security agencies, and developing and implementing national P/CVE policies. MP Aweys Mohamed Omar brings extensive experience in security, public policy, and counter-extremism initiatives, equipping him to effectively carry out these responsibilities.
The appointment highlights Somalia’s commitment to tackling radicalization, boosting national security, and fostering resilience among communities.
