UNDP Donates Security Vehicles to Strengthen Policing Capacity Across Somalia
Somalia has received six new security vehicles from UNDP to support ongoing police reforms, enhance mobility, and improve service delivery across federal member states.
Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), has officially received a fleet of new security vehicles from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support security institutions in the federal member states and the Benadir Regional Administration.
The handover ceremony, held in Mogadishu, marks another milestone in the government’s efforts to strengthen national security structures and enhance the operational capacity of police forces across the country. Minister Fartaag noted that the vehicles will significantly improve rapid-response capabilities, mobility, and the overall effectiveness of security services delivered to Somali citizens.
He extended gratitude to UNDP for its continued partnership and support to Somalia’s security sector, emphasizing that the newly donated vehicles reflect the shared commitment to building stable, well-equipped, and community-focused policing institutions.
The six vehicles are part of the JPP Face-2 programme, a security-sector strengthening initiative funded by the European Union (EU) and jointly implemented by UNDP and Somalia’s security agencies. The project focuses on enhancing police services, upgrading equipment and mobility, providing professional security training, and expanding community-oriented policing across the country.
