Somalia and Türkiye Strengthen Cooperation on Social Welfare and Family Development
Somalia’s Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Prof. Salim Aliyoow Ibro, held a bilateral meeting with Türkiye’s Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the areas of social welfare and community development.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from both ministries, as well as Somalia’s Ambassador to Türkiye, underscoring the importance both governments place on strengthening institutional ties.
Discussions focused on deepening collaboration in social assistance programs, family development initiatives, and the delivery of social services. The two sides also explored ways to enhance coordination between social institutions in Somalia and Türkiye to improve the effectiveness and reach of community-based programs.
As a key outcome of the talks, the ministers agreed to establish a joint technical committee tasked with drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two ministries. The proposed agreement is intended to accelerate capacity-building programs and strengthen the institutional framework of social service agencies in Somalia.
Minister Prof. Salim Aliyoow Ibro expressed his appreciation to the government and people of Türkiye for their continued support and solidarity with Somalia. He praised Türkiye’s longstanding partnership and commitment to assisting Somalia in rebuilding its social and institutional sectors.
The meeting reflects the growing strategic cooperation between Somalia and Türkiye, particularly in social development and humanitarian sectors, as both countries seek to expand long-term, sustainable partnerships that benefit vulnerable communities.
