Somalia Holds First Meeting of the National Unified Governance Committee to Advance Modern State-Building Agenda
The Federal Government of Somalia convened the first meeting of its National Unified Governance Committee, launching major reforms aimed at harmonizing administrative systems, strengthening inter-ministerial coordination, and building a modern, unified state structure.
The Office of the Prime Minister of Somalia today hosted the inaugural meeting of the National Unified Governance Committee, a body appointed by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on October 8, 2025, as part of the government’s strategy to harmonize administrative systems and accelerate the development of a modern, unified state structure.
The session, chaired by Minister of Communications and Technology Mohamed Somali—who also serves as Chairperson of the National Unified Governance Committee—brought together representatives from all participating ministries. These include the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Learning, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Health and Social Care, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Security, the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, the Office of the Prime Minister, and the Office of the President.
Discussions centered on unifying government functions, accelerating modern governance procedures, and strengthening coordination among institutions responsible for overseeing key pillars of the state’s governance architecture.
After extensive deliberations, committee members agreed to:
1. Strengthen efforts to unify government administrative systems;
2. Implement an integrated framework for managing government data and public services;
3. Enhance transparency, accountability, and cross-agency cooperation.
The meeting marks a significant step toward accelerating the construction of a modern state system, demonstrating the Federal Government’s commitment to establishing a unified, efficient, and citizen-centered governance model that improves service delivery nationwide.
