Speaker of Somalia’s Lower House Suspends Parliamentary Sessions After Chaos
The Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nuur (Madoobe), has officially suspended joint sessions of both houses of Parliament, as well as sessions of the Lower House.
The decision follows chaos during the joint session on January 28, 2026, which was disrupted by disputes and disorder that halted the parliamentary agenda.
The Speaker also issued a final warning to members of the Lower House accused of involvement in the disruption. He emphasized the need to uphold order, ethics, and parliamentary rules, while protecting the dignity and reputation of the Federal Parliament.
He said the measures are part of efforts to maintain discipline and proper legislative work, stressing that parliamentarians must act responsibly, respect one another, and follow the Constitution and existing laws.
