Somali forces continue large-scale search for violent militants in Lower Shabelle
Somali National Army and South West State Darawiish forces continue a large-scale operation in Wanlaweyn District, Lower Shabelle, targeting militia members previously sentenced to death for killings linked to clan disputes
Somali National Army (SNA) troops, in coordination with South West State Darawiish forces, are continuing a large-scale operation across several villages and communities under Wanlaweyn District, Lower Shabelle, aimed at apprehending individuals previously sentenced to death by a military court.
The multi-day operation targets militia members accused of committing killings motivated by clan-based disputes in various areas of the region. The military court had earlier sentenced these suspects for their alleged involvement in the fatalities, prompting security forces to launch a coordinated campaign to arrest them.
The forces are actively operating in villages including Gabahirig, Gudaale, Riiglooy, Dooxada, Dudumaale, and Yaaqbariweyne, employing armored vehicles and intensive searches to track down the wanted militia members. Military officials leading the operation emphasized the use of systematic searches and area control measures to ensure success.
Clashes were reported days ago between Somali forces and armed militia in Yaaqbariweyne, resulting in casualties on both sides. During the ongoing operations, three additional deaths have been confirmed, and authorities warn that further confrontations may occur as the search continues.
Local sources indicate that the targeted militia group is led by a man named Duqow, believed to be orchestrating the violent activities in the area. Security authorities have vowed to pursue all individuals sentenced by the military court until they are apprehended.
Officials from South West State and the Somali military have urged local communities to cooperate with the forces to maintain security and help bring an end to recurring violence in the district.
This operation reflects ongoing efforts by Somali security forces to enforce law and order in Lower Shabelle, a region that has long faced militia activity and instability affecting civilians.
