Hirshabelle cabinet convenes to tackle severe drought and security challenges.

The Cabinet of the Hirshabelle State of Somalia convened a special session today to discuss pressing security and humanitarian issues affecting the region. The meeting, held under the leadership of President of Hirshabelle, focused on measures to mitigate the effects of ongoing drought and to enhance security operations in vulnerable areas.

According to a statement issued by the Hirshabelle Cabinet, approximately 1.5 million residents across the state are facing extreme hardships due to the severe drought currently affecting the region. The Cabinet highlighted the urgent need for coordinated relief efforts to provide food, water, and basic services to affected communities.

“Severe drought has struck our lands. We must act swiftly to support our people who are facing extremely difficult living conditions,” said the President of Hirshabelle, emphasizing the critical nature of immediate humanitarian intervention.

In addition to the drought crisis, the Cabinet discussed ongoing security operations in and around Xawaadleey district in Middle Shabelle. Officials called for the acceleration of these operations to ensure the protection of civilians and to stabilize the affected areas, where insecurity has complicated humanitarian access.

The Hirshabelle administration appealed to national authorities, international partners, and humanitarian organizations to strengthen assistance programs and provide timely support to communities at risk. The Cabinet stressed the importance of integrating security and humanitarian strategies to address both immediate relief needs and longer-term resilience in the region.

The meeting concluded with a call for close coordination between state institutions, local authorities, and community leaders to ensure effective implementation of relief programs and security measures.

The Hirshabelle government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its citizens, while working with federal and international partners to tackle the combined challenges of insecurity and severe drought.
