The National Resources, Infrastructure, and Transport Committee of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia held an important meeting at the Senate headquarters with senior officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Federal Government of Somalia.

The delegation from the Ministry was led by the Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, H.E. Abdiwahab Abdi Omar (Cananuug), and included the Director General and other senior officials.

The meeting, chaired by the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on National Resources, Senator Zaynab Ismail Mohamed, focused on reviewing and clarifying the draft Mining Law of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Discussions centered on key provisions of the proposed legislation, with committee members examining specific articles of the law in detail.

Officials from the Ministry provided comprehensive explanations and technical clarifications regarding the draft law, responding in detail to questions raised by committee members. The discussions aimed to ensure that the proposed Mining Law aligns with national interests, promotes sustainable resource management, and strengthens legal and regulatory frameworks for the mining sector.

The committee emphasized the importance of thorough consultation and oversight in the legislative process, particularly for laws governing natural resources, which are considered vital to Somalia’s economic development and long-term stability.

The meeting forms part of ongoing parliamentary efforts to refine the Mining Law before it proceeds to the next stages of the legislative process.
