The Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development (MoPIED) today held a high-level leadership meeting in Mogadishu, chaired by the Minister of the Ministry,  Mahmoud Abdirahman Sheikh Farah (Beenebeene).

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister, H.E. Mohamed Adan Mohamed, the Director General, Mr. Mohamed Shire, Directors of Departments, and senior advisors of the Ministry. The gathering formed part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen strategic planning, coordination, and effective implementation of national development priorities.

During the meeting, the Ministry’s leadership conducted a comprehensive review of institutional work priorities, with a particular focus on progress made and the implementation timeline of the 2026 annual work plan. Discussions emphasized the importance of timely, coordinated, and joint execution of planned activities across all departments to ensure effective service delivery and achievement of set targets.

The meeting also focused on accelerating the implementation of the National Transformation Plan (NTP) and strengthening the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework. The leadership underscored that a robust M&E system is essential to enhancing accountability, transparency, and results-based reporting, which are key pillars of effective governance and sustainable development.

In addition, participants reviewed planned engagements and ongoing cooperation with development partners, highlighting the need for better alignment of programs and more effective partnerships to maximize development impact. Ensuring coherence between national priorities and partner-supported initiatives was identified as a critical factor in achieving long-term development goals.

The leadership further discussed issues related to staff attendance, performance, and accountability, stressing the importance of improving productivity, professionalism, and the overall quality of the Ministry’s workforce. Strengthening internal management systems was noted as a key step toward enhancing institutional efficiency and effectiveness.

The Ministry of Planning reaffirmed its strong commitment to deepening cooperation across different levels of government and with development partners, advancing results-based planning, and building productive partnerships that contribute to the realization of Somalia’s national development priorities.
