Somalia’s Prime Minister Lays Foundation Stone for New Ministry of Finance Headquarters
Somalia Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, today officially laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new Central Headquarters of the Ministry of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia.
The new facility, which will be a modern and purpose-built complex, will replace the old ministry headquarters that was constructed in 1980. The project aims to meet the growing operational needs and responsibilities of the Ministry of Finance in line with the expansion and development of Somalia’s financial and economic institutions.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Hamza stated that the project is part of the DanQaran Government’s broader policy to strengthen economic infrastructure and modernize state institutions. He emphasized that the new building will significantly improve service delivery to the Somali public by easing administrative processes and reducing congestion in existing office spaces.
“The Ministry of Finance is the backbone of the country’s economic development and financial stability,” the Prime Minister said. He praised the efforts of the Minister of Finance, Mr. Bihi Iman Egeh, and the ministry’s staff for their commitment to modernizing revenue systems and reforming financial infrastructure.
“I am pleased that today we are laying the foundation for a central headquarters whose safety, quality, and standards have been fully assured. Once completed, this building will accommodate all departments and senior leadership of the ministry under one roof. I congratulate the Ministry of Finance on this important step toward improving service quality and institutional efficiency,” Prime Minister Hamza added.
The Ministry of Finance has developed a modern architectural design for the new headquarters, incorporating safety standards, energy efficiency, environmental considerations, and reliable power supply to ensure sustainable operations.
The construction of the new headquarters is being supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB), which continues to play a key role in supporting Somalia’s economic recovery and infrastructure development.
The project reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening governance, enhancing public financial management, and building resilient institutions capable of supporting long-term national development.
