Somali Danab commandos conduct a planned security operation in Galguduud region.
Somalia’s elite Danab Special Forces have carried out a planned security operation in several areas of the Galguduud region, authorities confirmed on Thursday.
The operation targeted the areas of Ceel Cali Mire, Bulacle, Xersi Fiin, and Miir Dugle, all located on the outskirts of Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State. Military officials said the mission was part of ongoing efforts to weaken the operational capabilities of the Al-Shabaab militant group.
Commanders who led the operation told state media that the Danab forces acted on intelligence indicating potential threats against civilians living in the surrounding communities. They said the operation successfully disrupted planned attacks and improved security in areas under the administration of Dhusamareb.
“The operation is part of sustained security efforts aimed at preventing Al-Shabaab from carrying out attacks against innocent civilians,” the officers said, adding that the Somali National Army will continue operations to ensure lasting security across the region.
The officials also stressed that similar operations will continue as part of broader counterterrorism efforts to stabilize Galguduud and neighboring regions. They reaffirmed the commitment of the Somali National Army and its special forces to protecting civilians and maintaining security.
The operation comes amid reports that counterterrorism activities in Galguduud and Hiiraan had slowed in recent months compared to intensified operations in Middle Shabelle and Lower Shabelle regions. Security sources say the latest operation signals a renewed push to restore momentum against Al-Shabaab in central Somalia.
Somali authorities have repeatedly stated that coordinated operations involving federal forces, local militias, and international partners remain central to efforts to defeat the militant group and strengthen stability nationwide.
