Somali Police prepare for safe voting as movement restrictions set for 25 December elections in Mogadishu
The Commander of the Somali Police Force, Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi (Diyaano), announced that movement across the city will be restricted on Thursday, 25 December 2025, to ensure that citizens can safely participate in the upcoming local elections in Banadir Region.
During a meeting convened with senior police officers from various units and special divisions, the Commander instructed that full preparations be made to secure the public election taking place on Thursday, 25 December.
Police officers have also been directed to facilitate citizens so that they can vote safely and without obstruction.
Following the meeting, the Somali Police spokesperson, Brigadier General Abdifitah Aden Hassan, told the media that the police command is also preparing for emergency situations that may affect the public. Special transport arrangements will be in place to assist residents.
The Somali Police Force is taking extensive measures to ensure the security of these public elections, expected to take place for the first time in several decades in Mogadishu, providing citizens with the opportunity to choose their leadership.
