The Minister of Communications and Technology, Mr. Mohamed Aden Maalin (Soomaali), officially inaugurated the 3rd National Cybersecurity Forum, highlighting the importance of the country’s digital security.
The Minister stated that the government will soon launch a dedicated center to prevent and respond to cyber-attacks. He also urged universities and the research community to increase studies related to digital security, noting the role of Mogadishu University in this effort.
Meanwhile, the Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, welcomed the forum participants and described the event as essential for raising awareness about digital security in Somalia.
The Director General of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), Abdiwali Ali Abdulle, said that while Somalia is advancing technologically compared to many countries, it is crucial to establish laws to regulate online risks.
Additionally, the Director General of the Somali Data Protection Agency, Mohamed Noor Colow, highlighted the government’s significant progress in digital development, warning that failure to prepare for cybersecurity threats could lead to widespread risks.
