Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan and wife sentenced to 10 years over state gifts case.
A court in Islamabad on Saturday (December 20) sentenced former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 10 years in prison each in connection with a second case involving state gifts.
The court also handed the couple an additional seven-year prison sentence under Section 409 of Pakistan’s Penal Code, which relates to criminal breach of trust by a public servant.
The verdict was delivered by Special Central Judge Shah Rukh Arjumand at Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan and his wife are currently being held.
In addition to the prison terms, the court imposed fines exceeding 16 million Pakistani rupees on the couple.
However, the former prime minister and his wife have decided to challenge the ruling at the Islamabad High Court. Speaking to journalists outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Khan’s lawyer Salman Safdar said his client had instructed him to pursue all available legal options to overturn the conviction.
