NISA conducts major operation in Jambaluul, neutralizes militant cell
Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency carried out a targeted operation in Jambaluul, Afgooye district, neutralizing several individuals linked to extremist plotting and dismantling hideouts used for planning attacks. Excerpt 2:
The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) carried out a planned security operation on Tuesday night in the Jambaluul area of Afgooye district in the Lower Shabelle region, targeting elements involved in organizing clandestine militant activities. According to official reports, the operation resulted in the neutralization of at least 12 individuals engaged in extremist actions, including a key figure who had been under NISA surveillance for an extended period.
The operation focused on several hideouts and makeshift locations where the militants were believed to be coordinating attacks and preparing explosive devices. During the mission, the situation escalated into direct confrontation after the group attempted to resist security forces. Authorities reported that the militants also launched indirect fire toward areas populated by civilians, resulting in injuries to some residents.
NISA confirmed that two of its personnel were also injured during the operation. Government officials stated that both the affected civilians and the injured officers are receiving medical attention and care under state supervision.
The Federal Government of Somalia expressed deep regret over the harm caused to civilians during the militants’ retaliatory actions. It reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations aimed at dismantling extremist networks and safeguarding communities from threats posed by groups seeking to destabilize Somalia.
Officials urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity or information related to Al-Shabaab or ISIS-linked elements.
