Somalia Ambassador to Tanzania meets with DRC's Deputy Prime Minister in Kinshasa
The Somali Ambassador to Tanzania, Ambassador Ilyaas Ali Hassan, who also serves as Somalia’s non-resident ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), conducted an official visit to Kinshasa, the capital of Congo, where he held an extensive meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Security, Jacquemain Shabani.
During the meeting, the two officials engaged in comprehensive discussions aimed at strengthening the longstanding diplomatic relationship between Somalia and the DRC. Ambassador Ilyaas underlined the deep-rooted historical ties that have connected the two nations over the years, emphasizing that Somalia views the DRC as a vital partner in advancing regional stability, economic development, and multilateral cooperation.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Shabani, welcomed the ambassador’s visit and reaffirmed the DRC’s commitment to bolstering cooperation with Somalia.
He highlighted the mutual interests shared by both countries, particularly in areas such as security collaboration, trade, capacity building, and regional integration within East and Central Africa. He also commended the Somali community living in the DRC for their positive contribution to local commerce and social cohesion.
A significant part of the discussion focused on the Somali diaspora residing in Congo, with Ambassador Ilyaas stressing the importance of safeguarding their rights, improving their access to services, and addressing the challenges they face.
Both sides expressed the need for stronger communication and coordination to ensure that the Somali community continues to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the host nation.
The talks concluded with a clear commitment from both parties to enhance cooperation at bilateral, regional, and international levels.
They agreed to explore new avenues for deepening collaboration in governance, security, and economic development. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of continued diplomatic dialogue to support peace, stability, and prosperity in both nations.
