Jubbaland Dervish Forces carried out a security operation in the town of Qooqaani in the Lower Juba region as part of ongoing efforts to counter Al-Shabaab activity and enhance public safety.
The operation focused on strengthening overall security in Qooqaani and its surrounding areas. According to local officials, the mission aimed to prevent militant movements and reassure residents through visible security measures.
Speaking to the media, the Qooqaani town security commander, Mahmoud Aden Hassan Gaaboow, who led the operation, said the exercise was part of continuous efforts to maintain stability and disrupt the activities of Al-Shabaab.
Commander Gaaboow stated that the forces conducted security sweeps along key entry and exit routes to the town, as well as in surrounding areas where militants are suspected of hiding. He emphasized that the objective of the operation was to safeguard civilians and ensure the safety of travelers using roads leading into and out of Qooqaani.
“These operations are intended to reinforce security and protect the public, particularly along major routes and areas previously targeted by extremist groups that routinely harm civilians,” Commander Gaaboow said.
The operation forms part of broader security campaigns being carried out by Jubbaland forces across parts of the Lower Juba and Middle Juba regions, aimed at clearing areas still affected by Al-Shabaab presence and restoring stability.
