Somalia, China strengthen defense partnership and military support.
The Minister of Defence of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, on Monday held talks with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Somalia, Wang Yu, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
The meeting centered on strengthening collaboration in the areas of security and defense, particularly China’s continued support for the reconstruction and capacity-building of the Somali National Armed Forces.
Minister Fiqi briefed the ambassador on recent gains made by the Somali National Army in operations against Al-Shabaab, noting the critical role international partners play in supporting and empowering Somalia’s security forces.
Both sides also underscored the importance of Somalia’s stability to broader peace and security in the Horn of Africa, expressing their shared commitment to advancing strategic cooperation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Defense Minister conveyed congratulations to the Government and people of China, as well as to the Chinese Embassy in Somalia, on the occasion of the Chinese New Year, wishing them prosperity and continued progress in the year ahead.
