Somali Special Forces known as Danab on Saturday launched an attack on Gambole village, 50 kilometres west of Jowhar, Hirshabelle’s administrative capital and took control of the village.
Sources told Radio Dalsan that the forces carried out the early morning attack after they were informed that Alshabaab had called Jowhar traders for a meeting in the village, hence foiling the plan.
It’s not known whether there were casualties.
On February 19, Hirshabelle in Jowhar arrested 17 traders for allegedly meeting Alshabaab leaders in the same village but released them all on the following day.
Hirshabelle administration had earlier warned local residents against travelling to Alshabaab controlled areas and seeking redress in their courts.
