Somalia Presidential candidate Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle on Tuesday warned that the Horn of Africa country was on the brink of an all out civil war due to corruption.
Abdulle a former close ally to the incumbent president Hassan Sheikh accused the latter and his officials of looting public coffers ahead of the November 30 presidential elections
“If this trend continues it may lead to a civil war” Abdulle warned at a Press conference in the Somali capital Mogadishu
“Threats , intimidation and bribery has become a normal reported occurence in almost all the polling stations” he added
Abdulle a former civil rights activist who has set his eyes set on occupying the Villa Somalia accused president Hassan Sheikh of amassing public wealth to secure another term in office
“The government is conducting daylight robbery of public coffers” he said
Abdulle’s remarks come two days after the international community demanded for an adress to instances of electoral abuses that have continued to be reported in the 2016 Somalia Elections
In a joint press conference last Monday the United Nations, African Union, European Union, Igad, Ethiopia, Italy, Sweden , UK and the US called upon the National Leadership Forum to “use their authority and influence to prevent abusive and unfair electoral practices”
130 Mps and 43 Senatots have been elected into a two chamber legislature comprising of 275 Mps in the Lower House of Commons and 54 Senators.
