Several people are feared dead after fighting erupted between Alshabaab militants and Somalia National Army soldiers backed by Kenya Defence Forces after an ambush in Somalia’s South West region of Gedo.
In the Tuesday attack near the town of Fahfahdun a regional government official was injured.
There have been reports of casualties on both sides after the firefight that lasted for at least four hours.
A local Gedo region administration claims 10 Alshabaab militants were killed and the rest repulsed.
Alshabaab claimed that it had destroyed a military vehicle in the attack.
Somali militant group Alshabaab has intensified its attacks on SNA and Amisom troops in the Gedo region.
