Somali militant group Alshabaab has spoken on the current border dispute in Gedo region’s town of Beled Hawo and Kenya, Radio Dalsan reports.
In an audio released by the militant’s group’s official radio Alshabaab Spokesman Ali Dheere Abu Musab said it will send its fighters to be part of the border defence.
Dheere termed the current construction of a wall on the border near Mandera and BeledHawo town was an incursion of Somalia’s land.
Alshabaab praised the residents of the border town for protesting against the said incursion.
BeledHawo has seen three weeks of violent protests against the KDF forces who recently started the construction of what Kenya says is a security wall to avert intrusion by the Alqaeda linked group fighters into Kenya from the vast Gedo region.
The Villa Somalia had been under pressure from the public to address the border dispute.
On Monday Somalia’s ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement that said President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo had last week spoken with his counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta on the matter and resolved to stop the construction of the controversial security wall.
