Mogadishu, 5 April 2016; Six Al-Shabaab commanders have been killed by the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the Somali National Army over the past few days as the allied forces intensify the war against the terrorist group Al-Shabaab.
This brings to seven, the total number of Al-Shabaab commanders killed by the Allied forces in one week. On April 2, 2016 the allied Forces killed Al-Shabaab commander in Janaale, Abdirashir Bugdube.
Other Al-Shabaab leaders killed by the allied Forces in Sector 1 are; Aden Bale – the Al-Shabaab commander of Leego; Sheikh Mohamed Ali who was second in command in Janaale; Mohamed Abribao who was an Al-Shabaab judge in Janaale; Hassan Ali Dole – the Chief Aminiyat of lower Shabelle region, a Yemeni IED expert “Abu Islam†and Kenyan Sheikh Mansur who was the chief trainer.
“Al-Shabaab are more frequently resorting to hit and run tactics to avoid direct contact with AMISOM and remain relevant,†emphasized the Contingent Commander of Sector 1 Brigadier General Sam Okiding.
Operations to open the Main Supply Route to the town of Janale and clear Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) continue and have now extended into the town. The clearance activities are meant to ease the movement of the population and goods.
